The VKS is a 6 mm airsoft sniper rifle inspired by the distinctive VKS/VSSK silhouette, but it is its own purpose-built airsoft platform rather than a one-to-one reproduction. Silverback has returned to its bullpup roots and combined the layout with lessons learned from both the SRS and TAC-41.

The official manual confirms that the spring-powered VKS shares three core mechanical elements with the SRS: the cylinder, piston and spring guide. It also uses the same 41 cc of usable air volume as the SRS and TAC-41. From the TAC-41 side, the VKS adopts a top-dead-centre hop-up concept and a high-capacity magazine philosophy. The result is short where it matters, mechanically familiar to experienced Silverback technicians, and easy to strip without turning routine maintenance into a workshop project.

Silenced or Compact?

Both versions use the same 350 mm inner barrel and the same core spring system. The difference is the external sound-management package, overall length and weight. The Silenced model includes Silverback’s full-size VKS silencer; the Compact model keeps the extraordinary 649 mm bullpup footprint.

Controls and included equipment

Know the platform

The manual identifies the cheek rest, dust cover, hop-up wheel, bolt handle, buttplate, magazine catch, magazine, trigger, pistol grip, handguard rail, silencer, selector, back pin, front pin and top cover. The rifle package includes the VKS, one VKS magazine, two alternative pressure nubs for hop-up adjustment, a patch, pin punch and adjustment-wheel cap. The full-size silencer is included with the Silenced version.

The selector has two clear positions: safe and fire. Keep it on safe until the rifle is pointing in a safe direction and you are ready to shoot. Wear suitable eye protection, treat it as loaded, and follow local law and field-energy limits.

Spring-powered straight-pull cycle

How the VKS works

The VKS is operated through a linear bolt movement rather than a traditional rotating bolt. The spring drives a piston inside the 41 cc cylinder; compressed air then accelerates the BB through the hop-up and 350 mm inner barrel. The bullpup layout places this mechanism behind the trigger, preserving full cylinder volume in a remarkably short rifle.

Prepare safely.Set the selector to safe, point the rifle in a safe direction and make sure the barrel path is clear.

Load and insert the magazine.With the magazine removed, open its fill port, load up to 63 BBs and close it. Insert the front of the magazine first, then rotate the rear upward until it locks. The feed tube holds a further five BBs.

Open the bolt.Press the bolt-handle latch and draw the handle straight back approximately 92 mm until the piston engages the sear. With the bolt open, the chamber can be checked safely.

Close and lock.Push the bolt fully forward, release the latch and verify that the handle is locked in place.

Fire safely.Only when ready, move the selector to fire, aim at an approved target and press the trigger. Repeat the straight-pull cycle before firing again.

Unload completely.Move the selector back to its SAFE position, remove the magazine and empty it using the magazine catch. Remember that up to five BBs can remain in the feed path; clear the rifle in a safe direction according to the official manual.

Critical manual warning: never pull the trigger while the bolt is open. The bolt can slam forward and cause damage or injury. Do not overtighten the silencer; thread it clockwise only until it reaches its stop.

TDC hop-up

One click at a time

The VKS uses a dedicated top-dead-centre adjustment wheel. Each click changes nub pressure by approximately 20 micrometres. Fifty positions provide a total range from 0 to 1,000 micrometres. Silverback also supplies two taller nubs that shift the available adjustment window by approximately +250 or +500 micrometres.

Turn the wheel clockwise to add hop and counterclockwise to reduce it. Start low, fire a controlled group with the BB mass and energy you will actually use, then add hop gradually until the trajectory is stable without climbing excessively. Keep the rifle upright while testing; canting the rifle introduces side spin.

Whenever BB mass, muzzle energy, nub or bucking changes, reset and tune again. Excessive pressure can jam the chamber. Chronograph the rifle after hop changes because the setting can alter measured energy. The chamber, nub, bucking and inner barrel must remain clean and dry.

Sound signature

Built around silence

Silverback describes the VKS as likely to be one of the quietest spring-powered bolt-action platforms currently available in airsoft. That is a manufacturer positioning statement, not an independent laboratory ranking, but the engineering direction is clear.

The sound heard by an opponent is a combination of muzzle report, piston impact, mechanical resonance and environmental reflection. The Silenced VKS attacks the muzzle component with a very large dedicated volume around a comparatively short 350 mm inner barrel. The spring system’s piston and airbrake architecture gives technicians another route to soften the mechanical impulse, while the rigid bullpup chassis keeps the air system compact and aligned.

This is why the right premium build is not simply “the strongest spring.” A truly top-tier VKS should balance the air volume, piston mass, cup, airbrake, spring, hop seal and BB weight, then prove the result on a chronograph and in a sound test. Efficiency and impact control are what create a refined rifle.

Stalker upgrade path

How SRS products fit into a premium VKS build

The official VKS manual explicitly confirms shared SRS cylinder, piston and spring-guide mechanics. The official exploded view also identifies SRS-family airbrake and spring-guide part numbers inside the VKS spring assembly. Skirmshop has additionally confirmed a dedicated VKS conversion path for the Stalker hop system: the Stalker chamber works with a small VKS-specific adapter, while the Stalker Morpheus inner barrel and Stalker bucking are compatible. This creates a complete premium air-and-hop upgrade path without implying that every SRS part fits the VKS.

Important fitment note: the Stalker chamber requires the dedicated VKS adapter; it is not a direct-fit chamber without that piece. Skirmshop will publish the exact adapter, Morpheus length and recommended bucking configuration after final production installation, cycling, chronograph and hop testing. This confirmed conversion path is not a blanket guarantee for unrelated SRS parts.

Maintenance that preserves performance

Keep the quiet rifle quiet

Keep the hop-up unit, bucking, nub and inner barrel clean and dry. Oil in the hop system destroys consistency.
Use only a small amount of suitable lubricant on the cylinder seals and sliding surfaces identified by Silverback. More lubricant is not better.
Check the silencer and front assembly for correct seating; stop when the thread reaches its natural end and never overtighten it.
Inspect the magazine feed lips, follower and channel. Dirt in the high-capacity double-stack magazine can create intermittent feeding.
After any piston, spring, airbrake, seal, nub or hop change, verify bolt engagement, safe operation and muzzle energy before field use.
Store the rifle unloaded, uncocked and dry. Remove the magazine and confirm that the five-BB feed path is clear.

VKS answers

Is the VKS an SRS in a different body?

No. It is a distinct platform with dedicated VKS bodywork, magazine, barrel assembly and TDC hop-up. It shares the SRS cylinder, piston and spring-guide mechanics, which is why selected SRS-system upgrades are relevant.

Will every Stalker SRS product fit?

No. The confirmed path includes the shared piston, spring-guide and airbrake architecture, plus the Stalker chamber when installed with the dedicated VKS adapter, the Stalker Morpheus inner barrel and the Stalker bucking. The chamber is not a direct fit without the adapter. A Stalker cylinder still requires physical production fitment, while SRS magazines and external parts remain VKS-specific.

Is it the quietest airsoft sniper rifle on the market?

Silverback states that it is likely to be one of the quietest spring-powered bolt-action platforms available. We describe it that way until comparative, repeatable sound testing supports anything more absolute.

Does the Compact version lose barrel length?

No. Both official versions use a 350 mm inner barrel. The main difference is the external front assembly, overall length and total weight.

How many BBs does it hold?

The dedicated VKS magazine holds 63 BBs, and the feed tube holds a further five. Always account for those remaining BBs when unloading.

When is the preorder expected to ship?
